“I’m surprised Miliband didn’t try to seize the moment and ally with the rebels,” Vaizey says, all smile and smarm, amid the crush and bustle of the No lobby.
David laughs. “He doesn’t have the stomach. He’s not a risk-taker, he’s a bandwagon-jumper. No balls at all. Beyond Balls.”
He trails off as Vaizey’s eyes widen, looking over his shoulder.
“He’s also saving your skin today, Cameron,” Miliband’s brother says, with pained politeness. “Gratitude might be beyond you, but common courtesy might be expected.”
David waits until Miliband moves away to return to Vaizey. “Between ourselves, I’m glad Ed won.”
