Oh my goodness, this is such a lovely, lovely comment! Thank you so much!! <333
Your Ed as narrator is delightful, and the absolute swaggering definition of hero of his own story.
Aww, thank you! I love writing him for this very reason. His POV is always tricky to navigate but so much fun. :D
Though you may want to look again at He’s the Chancellor of the Exchequer, after all in the second para, unless Ed is drunk enough to have delusions of government already!
He's totally just having delusions of grandeur. *sneaks off to change to Shadow Chancellor*
My Ed/Ed shipping soul loves the way you write EdB's attitude to EdM.
Thank you so much. I am so glad that worked for you! Part of the reason it took me ten days to write this fic (I usually write much more quickly) was because I was trying to work in all these layers and communicate them plausibly through EdB's POV. The Milicest, of course, but also the Ed^2, and the EdM/Yvette, and EdB's continuing infatuation with Yvette, and there was also going to be a EdB/Andy undercurrent at one point, but it didn't end up working out. I got pretty frustrated at times, trying to show and hint at it all instead of tell it. I'm still such an amateur at this! I'm so glad it worked for at least one person. :D
Mild-mannered Hilary and his glasses and ineffective glares taking control and kissing Ed properly was lovely. And earlier singing “Too Sexy”. He is just too adorable. And goodness, Ed/Hilary as a pairing may actually be the pinnacle of adorability.
Most of the credit has to go to the prompter!anon, I have to say! I would never have thought of bringing Hilary in on my own. But since he was in the prompt, I had to look him up and see how he would work, and once I saw an interview or two, everything fell into place. Now I want to see him in fic more often. :)
Also, the Shad Cab in general – poor shirtless Douglas, Sadiq choking on his Perrier, Caroline being a bamf ( “Bonus truth, boys, Gove’s got a strange sexual magnetism. Can’t you just imagine that voice doing dirty talk?” , I will never stop grinning), Harriet rapping, and Yvette.
I had so much fun writing them, negl. I usually write romance - because that's usually what shows up in prompts - but I do adore writing gen. Maybe I'll have to write more, just for me. :)
Just, everything Yvette says or does.
I adore Yvette, which um, isn't a secret to anyone who's read my recent work! And the next three prompts I'm writing are also Yvette-focused. I just love her character, and her relationships, and the opportunities to play with the ideas of what being a woman in politics means, what being a strong woman means, and all the nuances and contradictions involved. I am so happy that other people are prompting her nowadays - it gives me the excuse to write her more often (not that I really need one, but I felt kinda bad devoting so much of my writing energies to her back when I was the only Yvette fangirl).
Also, I really want to know what happened that one time. Though I’m sure Yvette must know all sorts of EdM’s secrets.)
Haha, that's totally a "mystery novel" line. You know, those lines that reference past cases and are never explained. I don't have a clue what Yvette and EdM are talking about, and I also would love to know. Maybe I'll figure it out someday. ;)
Their teasing friendship combined with Ed’s lingering unrequited love is so sweet.
Aww, thanks! EdM's Yvette!crush is totally my personal fanon.
On that note, The Yvette/Justine kiss was hot!
I'm glad you thought so! I haven't written much femslash (apart from the Sam/Miriam in Charity), so I'm still a little unsure of myself in that, but I'm trying to get better. I'm glad it worked for you. :)
The impliedish Milicest! Did not expect but adored
First time writing even impliedish Milicest! I didn't expect it either, but it just popped in there and wouldn't go away. :D
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this amazingly long and lovely comment. It has made my day, and makes me want to go write. You are awesome. <333
